Project Overview

In late 2024, Lampson partnered with PMI and Vertical Options to lift and position five modular tower components—each weighing approximately 10,000 lbs and measuring 40 feet in length—inside an elevator shaft for a man lift system in a Washington grain tower. The project also included the installation of a modular machine room.

Using a Lampson Manitowoc 14000 crane configured with 230 feet of boom and a 50-foot fixed jib, the team performed precision lifts within an extremely tight workspace. To protect the rail tracks below, the crane was set on custom 4×16 Lampson-fabricated steel mats, engineered to distribute load safely and maintain stability.

Engineering & Execution

  • Site Challenge: Confined space surrounded by buildings and structural obstructions.
  • Solution: Precise crane placement and custom mat foundation to accommodate load and reach.
  • Safety Performance: All lifts completed on schedule with zero safety incidents.
  • Equipment Used: Manitowoc 14000, 230’ boom, 50’ fixed jib, custom Lampson steel mats.

Results

This project demonstrates Lampson’s ability to combine engineering precision, custom rigging solutions, and field execution expertise to safely deliver modular installations in restrictive environments.
