Project Overview

Lampson International supported the construction of the new 45-story Hyatt Regency hotel at 8th and Howell in downtown Seattle, WA. The project involved more than 1,200 guest rooms and 105,000 sq. ft. of meeting and ballroom space, occupying three-quarters of the city block.

Project Challenges & Solutions

  • Employed a Manitowoc 16000 crane with 157′ main boom and 177′ luffing jib
  • Crane worked for 23 months from August 2015 to July 2017
  • Streets in downtown Seattle temporarily closed for crane erection, rig-down, and load-out operations
  • Placed around 300 H-piles, 9,200 tons of structural steel, and over 700 precast concrete panels weighing 14,000 lbs each
  • Lifted 48,000 lb truss segments and an 84,000 lb emergency generator into the hotel basement
  • Operations conducted on a 60′ x 40′ pad of Lampson steel mats to ensure stability
